Filipino cuisine has been sweeping the culinary world by storm. I love trying out different flavors and when I got The Filipino Cookbook by my Miki Garcia, I couldn’t wait to try it out. The cuisine is bright and friendly just like Filipino culture, and I loved that this book makes it easy for anyone to create Filipino dishes even if they’ve never tried this type of cuisine before. It always feels a bit mystifying when stepping into a new cuisine, and this cookbook does a fantastic job of keeping you assured and confident in the kitchen....
I heard about Tres Leches around 3 years ago and I have been intrigued ever since. A simple vanilla cake soaked in a mixture of 3 milks? Sign me up! I eventually got around to baking this cake two weeks ago and decided to use my easy-as-pie vanilla sponge cake recipe. This is really the easiest cake you could possibly bake as all the ingredients are just combined in a bowl and mixed until a creamy batter is formed....
Kale is the new black and men are the new burnt orange (as if anyone actually likes that color). I have to say that I enjoy dating about as much as I enjoy gorgonzola cheese on my frisée salad. Like I’m not gonna be a betch and send it back, but I’m not gonna instagram it either. Dating is the hot crop top that’s supposed to make you look skinny but kind of makes you look like a wide load....
I’ve been thinking about my mom so much lately. I mean, more than normal. I pretty much think about her everyday, but over the last few weeks, she has been on my mind constantly. Mostly because I am striving to be the kind of mom she was and I’m failing pretty hard at the moment. I’ve always been a pretty impatient person but over the last couple of weeks there’s been quite a lot of stress to deal with around these parts and that coupled with my impatience as caused me to be a pretty terrible mom at times....

I made it when we had friends over for a Hanukah dinner and everyone asked the recipe....
Quiche is always a good idea as a make-ahead breakfast/brunch or light lunch. This crustless quiche takes away all the faff that comes along with working with pastry. This zucchini and feta quiche will be perfection at Easter brunch....
It all began with my beloved Healthy Banana Muffins and Sweet Potato Brownies. Introducing dry stir fry Unlike most of the saucy stir fry dishes you see outside of China, which is Cantonese style Chinese food, stir fries from Sichuan cuisine use more aromatics and chili peppers to create the flavor base. In other words, they are “dry” stir fry. This Sichuan crispy beef belongs to this category. In China we call it dried fried steak, or 干煸牛肉 (Gan Bian Niu Rou) in Chinese....

Updated March 05, 2020 I am so in love with spring right now, especially the fruits and veggies. Going grocery shopping and seeing all of the fresh produce makes me giddy. Yes, I am nerdy like that. I am currently obsessed with asparagus. I think I’ve made it for dinner every night…for a week. Caleb is not loving it, but I don’t care. Every time he sees me get out the asparagus he says, “We had that last night....
Updated April 28, 2011 One night I made pasta for the boys. I love pasta because it is cheap, easy, and the choices are endless. We had leftover grilled Italian sausages and ricotta cheese so I decided to do a baked pasta. I added in onion, garlic, and roasted peppers too. I topped everything off with my homemade marinara sauce and mozzarella cheese. The individual baked pastas came out nice and bubbly....

Updated March 26, 2019 On Saturday, Josh went snowboarding with his friend. I wasn’t invited, not that I wanted to go, I hate the snow, cold, and scary, steep mountains:) I have tried skiing twice, but I am not a fan. I prefer to stay inside where it is warm. So I spent the day cooking and baking-that is my idea of a good time. I wanted Josh to come home to something hearty and warm, so I made a black bean sweet potato soup....
