Ingredients and Substitutions

We love pigs in a blanket made with frozen puff pastry but you can use any dough of your choice. Crescent roll dough, shortcrust pastry, etc. can all be used.

Cocktail sausages. Cocktail sausages are easy to use but you can use cut up hot dogs/vienna sausages or chipolatas can all be substituted. Store-bought puff pastry. Egg. Optional: I sprinkled Everything Bagel seasoning mixed with grated Parmesan cheese over the top but this is optional. Sesame seeds, poppy seeds, etc. can all be used.

How to make pigs in a blanket in the air fryer

Can I make this ahead?

Yes, you can make this dish in advance. They can be served at room temperature so you can make them up to 3 hours ahead and any leftovers can be kept in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in the air fryer for a few minutes until hot and crisp. I also like freezing the uncooked pigs in a single layer then storing in freezer bags for up to 3 months then bake/air fry from frozen.

Puff Pastry Appetizers

I used my Instant Pot Vortex Plus Versazone air fryer for this recipe, as I do all my air fryer recipes. The generous basket size and variety of settings makes this my ultimate choice when it comes to Air Fryers. I am thrilled to be partnered with Instant Brands South Africa to bring you this, and so many other delicious recipes.
