I have a new obsession: frozen berries. Raspberries, blueberries, mixed berries, whatever. This is nothing revolutionary.  I’ve always had them around, but I am adding them to my weekly (or bi-weekly) grocery list for good. They are SO convenient to throw into muffins, oatmeal, smoothies, and most importantly, my mouth. Blueberries are a nutritional powerhouse. Once cup has a mere 84 calories and 14 percent of the suggested amount of daily fiber along with 24 percent of the suggested daily intake of Vitamin C.  The anthocyanins (the polyphenols that give them their blue hue) also help  to neutralize free radicals in your body to lower your risk of cancer, heart disease and Alzheimer’s. Almonds, another one of my fave superfoods, are loaded with Vitamin E, filling fiber and protein.  Even better, they’ve also been shown to have the ability to actually block calories. Research indicates that the composition of their cell walls may help decrease the absorption of their fat, making them a super lean nut.  Almond butter makes smoothie extra rich and creamy, as evidenced by my favorite snickerdoodle smoothie. If you use a super ripe banana, the natural sweetness will be all you need. This is perfect for breakfast or a quick nutritious snack. Sweet, creamy, almond blueberry drippy superfood heaven. Maybe I should have called it that instead. Let’s  sip on superfoods and pretend it’s not halfway through November.
