This cherry smoothie is made without bananas. And the addition of dark frozen cherries will give sweetness and texture to the smoothie. You can customize this a little bit by mixing a few grams of protein by changing the non-dairy milk. These delicious chocolate cherry smoothies are Dairy-free, Paleo-friendly, and Vegan. You can make this easy cherry smoothie with fresh cherries as well as frozen cherries. Just pit the cherries and add them to the blender with the rest of the ingredients. Ingredients note
Instructions
Place all the ingredients one by one into a high-speed blender and blend until smooth and creamy. If you don’t have cacao powder, you can substitute it with unsweetened cocoa powder. Dark sweet cherries: I love using dark sweet cherries in this recipe because they are naturally sweet and have a lovely deep red color. You can use frozen or fresh cherries in this recipe. If you can’t find dark sweet cherries, you can substitute them with regular sweet cherries or even tart cherries. Plant-based milk: I like to use unsweetened almond milk in this cherry smoothie recipe, but any plant-based milk will work. Coconut milk adds a little tropical flavor. Switching to soy milk or oat milk would increase the protein content, but be sure to use unsweetened milk. That way you only get the healthy fats from milk and not the processed sugar. Oats: I add oats to this smoothie for some extra fiber and nutrients. You can omit the oats if you’d like, or substitute them with other healthy ingredients like ground flax seeds, chia seeds, or hemp seeds. Agave syrup: Agave syrup is a natural sweetener that I like to use in this recipe. You can substitute agave syrup with other natural sweeteners like honey or maple syrup. Pour into a glass, garnish with cacao nibs or chocolate chips (optional) and enjoy! Cherry Chocolate Smoothie will be thick in consistency. If you want a thinner smoothie, add more plant-based milk until desired consistency is reached.
