A fresh veggie platter and a delicious dip is a welcome addition to any party table. We all love pastry and deep-fried snacks but to balance out all the richness, I love including an abundant platter of seasonal vegetables. The key is adding a delicious, creamy dip. This sour cream dip is super easy and can be made a few days in advance.
What are the best vegetables for a Crudité?
Any crunchy fresh vegetables will be delicious and to add some visual interest, use as many colors as possible.
Asparagus Green beans Sugar snap peas Cherry tomatoes Sliced bell peppers Broccoli/Broccolini Cauliflower Baby corn Baby carrots Mini cucumbers/sliced cucumber Celery Radishes Endive Artichoke hearts Zucchini Optional: I prefer keeping my vegetable tray simple but adding other elements like olives, pita chips, crackers and cheeses will add more texture and variety.
Ingredients for the dip
Sour cream. Greek yogurt is a good, healthy alternative. Fresh herbs: I used parsley and chives but basil, cilantro or mint can be used too. Garlic powder. Salt and black pepper. Fresh lemon juice.
How do you store crudités?
1-2 hours before I’m ready to serve my crudité platter, I wash, peel (where necessary) and slice all the vegetables. Arrange on a platter then cover tightly with plastic wrap and place in the fridge. To prepare the vegetables a day ahead, wash and slice vegetables and layer with damp kitchen paper. Place in an airtight container in the refrigerator until you are ready to assemble the platter and serve.
What is the difference between crudité and charcuterie?
Charcuterie platters are predominantly made up of cured meats and sometimes feature a cheese or two with crackers, preserves and fruit. Crudités is an appetizer consisting of fresh vegetables served with a dip of sorts.
