Ingredients notes

Dalia or broken wheat: choose any brand for Dalia or broken wheat because itis known by different names and sizes. Look for a medium to small size for the dalia recipe.  Masoor dal: for this recipe for Dalia I used masoor dal. You can use any type of lentils like toor dal, or moong dal.  Spices: Spices like red chili powder, turmeric, and garam masala will uplift the flavor of the khichdi. If you are making this dalia recipe for babies then skip the red chili and garam masala powder. Vegetables: feel free to add your favorite vegetables, like green peas, corn, cauliflower, carrots, etc.

How to make this recipe

Soak broken Wheat and masoor dal in water. ( 10 minutes) Instant Pot Method: Press saute button and add oil, when oil is hot add cumin seeds, cinnamon stick, and crushed cloves. When the seeds start to sizzle, add Asafoetida/hing (this is optional) chopped chilies, chopped garlic cloves, and ginger. Stir again. Add chopped onions and saute until it is translucent. Then add chopped tomatoes and saute well.  Add  turmeric powder, red chili  powder and garam masala. Continue to stir. Add salt and frozen peas. Mix well. Later add the soaked (and drained) masoor dal and dalia . Stir well get an even nix.  Close the instant pot and press the pressure cook button on high for 5 minutes. With the pressure valve in the sealing position. At the end of 5 minutes, let the pressure release naturally.  Open the lid and add chopped cilantro and drizzle lemon juice for extra flavor. Serve dalia khichdi warm.
